Type founding
The individual letters which are used in the hand casting device are made in our type foundry. But we also have fully functioning typesetting machines such as MONOTYPE and LINOTYPE, and these enable us to offer you a wide selection of Antiqua and Gothic scripts. Our printers will fulfill your printing wishes on machines that are over a hundred years old.
The printing workshop
The Basel Paper mill can print business cards, official documents and diplomas, intimations of marriage, notices of birth as well as greetings cards and invitations. Family histories, coloured woodcuts and copper engravings can be printed according to your particular wishes. Having our own type foundry enables us to take on larger printing tasks as well, for example the careful reproduction of works from the 18th and 19th century. Our printed products are composed by hand and on the MONOTYPE and LINOTYPE composing machines. Steel engravings live on!
Since 1998 there has also been a steel engraving printing press in use in the Basel paper mill.
The enormous “Waite & Saville inverted” which was built in England in about 1938 was an excellent addition to the range of products that we can offer. The quality and style of the work that can be achieved by using the Steel engraving technique is of the finest and remains till today - despite recent advances in modern technology - unmatched.
